Mega Evolution guide (Mega Energy and Mega Level)
BattleLast checked 2026-10-31
In 3 lines
- Mega Evolution spends Mega Energy to make a Pokémon stronger for a set time, and in raids it also powers up everyone attacking with the same type.
- Mega Evolve the same Pokémon many times and its Mega Level goes up, which cuts the energy and the cooldown for the next Mega Evolution.
- Collect Mega Energy by winning Mega Raids or by walking with a Pokémon that can Mega Evolve as your buddy.
What Mega Evolution does
- A Mega Evolved Pokémon's stats go up a lot, making it stronger in raids and Gyms. Mega forms have different stats, so they get their own pages on the site (e.g., Mega Charizard X).
- When a Mega Evolved Pokémon is in a raid, every participant's attack goes up a little, and attacks of the same type as the Mega Pokémon go up even more.
- You can have only one Mega Evolved Pokémon on your team (Beating raids alone).
Mega Level
Mega Evolve the same Pokémon many times and its Mega Level goes up. The higher the level, the less energy the next Mega Evolution costs, and the shorter the cooldown before you can Mega Evolve it again. At higher levels, you also get Candy XL and XP bonuses when you catch Pokémon of that Pokémon's type.
| Mega Level | Cooldown | Mega Evolutions to reach it |
|---|---|---|
| Base | 7 days | 1 |
| High | 5 days | 7 |
| Max | 3 days | 30 |
| Super Max | 24 hours | Raised from Max by spending 5,000 Mega Energy |
These numbers follow Bulbapedia's summary. For Pokémon with two Mega forms (like Charizard and Mewtwo), the Mega Level has been counted separately for each Mega form since May 2026.
Collecting Mega Energy
- Mega Raids: win one to get that Pokémon's Mega Energy.
- Walking with your buddy: set a Pokémon from an evolution family you've Mega Evolved at least once (its Mega form is registered in your Pokédex) as your buddy and walk, and you'll collect Mega Energy.
- Research and event rewards: sometimes given as rewards during Mega-themed events.
Checklist
- Raise one Mega Pokémon of a type that raid bosses are weak to
- Raise the Mega Level of Megas you use often
- Collect energy from Mega Raids
