Weather boost guide (which types get stronger in each weather)
BattleLast checked 2026-10-31
In 3 lines
- Each in-game weather boosts certain types, and moves of those types deal 1.2× damage.
- Weather-boosted wild Pokémon can be up to level 35, and their IVs are at least 4 in each stat.
- When a raid boss is weather boosted, it's level 25 when you catch it, so its CP is higher.
Boosted types by weather
The in-game weather changes to follow the real weather where you are. You can check it with the weather icon at the top right of the screen.
| Weather | Boosted types |
|---|---|
| Sunny | Fire · Grass · Ground |
| Rainy | Water · Electric · Bug |
| Partly cloudy | Normal · Rock |
| Cloudy | Fairy · Fighting · Poison |
| Windy | Dragon · Flying · Psychic |
| Snow | Ice · Steel |
| Fog | Dark · Ghost |
What weather boost changes
- 1.2× move damage: moves of boosted types deal 1.2× damage in raids and Gym battles. This multiplies separately from the 1.2× you get when a move's type matches the Pokémon's type. Weather doesn't apply in GO Battle League.
- Wild Pokémon: Pokémon of boosted types appear more often, can be up to level 35 (normally 30), and have IVs of at least 4 in each stat. You also get more Stardust when you catch them.
- Raid bosses: they're level 25 instead of 20 when you catch them, so their CP is higher and they stay useful longer. The IV floor stays at 10.
You can see the CP range of weather-boosted raid bosses in the 'Weather boost' row of each Pokémon's CP table.
How to use it
- Check the weather before heading to a raid, and put counters of boosted types up front (the weather filter on Raids).
- Rainy days are good for hunting Water, Electric and Bug Pokémon, and windy days for Dragon Pokémon.
- Weather-boosted wild Pokémon start at a higher level, so you save Stardust on power-ups (How to earn and save Stardust).
Checklist
- Check the weather before a raid
- Put counters of boosted types up front
- Catch boosted wild Pokémon, since their level and IVs are higher
